I have a friend who hardly ever lets the sun touch her and spends extraordinary amounts of energy on hiding her skin in summer, skulking in the shadows and donning eccentric hats and sun glasses. Her strategy, I think, is that in around 10 years she will be looking probably at least 10 years younger than the rest of us.
For most of us though, the lure of sun-filled days is simply too enticing and the best that we can hope to do is remember our hats and sunscreen most of the time. Or at least sometimes. Probably it’s worth some extra wrinkles to still enjoy sun-kissed skin from at least a few carefree moments in the open air.
The grim reality is, of course, that anything much more than a moment is burn time for unprotected skin. And even when we’re careful the drying effects of sunrays are such that it simply isn’t possible to maintain supple, healthy skin in summer without using some extra, really hydrating skin care. Dry skin treatment is particularly important especially since prolonged use of many sunscreen products can actually contribute to dryness (who knew?).
