German Chamomile oil is a rich blue/green colour as it contains azulene, known as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. This blue crystal is not present in the plant but forms in the essential oil during distillation. Derived from a plant with roots in ancient Egyptian medicine, it has many healing properties that have contributed to its reputation as a soothing, balancing essence. It has been traditionally used to calm red, sensitive, easily-irritated or flaky skin and to support normal cycles of menstruation and menopause. The oil is also thought to encourage fertility as well as to promote serenity and composure within mind and body. Please note: the traditional uses listed here are for reference only and under no circumstances should they be taken as recommendations for cures or treatments for diseases or medical conditions.
