The Egyptians dedicated this plant to the sun as it was believed to cure fevers. The name comes from the Greek meaning ground apple, reminding us of the faint scent of apple in its pleasant fragrance. Roman chamomile has traditionally been included in shampoos to lighten hair when exposed to the sun. It has long been considered soothing and is used for anxiety and stress, and to promote calm, especially prior to sleep. It has been diluted in topical blends to reduce inflammation of cuts and skin irritations and to ease discomfort of swollen gums. It was found to be particularly suitable for the young and fragile and has also been indicated for temper tantrums and nightmares. Please note: the traditional uses listed here are for reference only and under no circumstances should they be taken as recommendations for cures or treatments for diseases or medical conditions.
