The evergreen havozo tree, native to Madagascar and other Indian Ocean islands, offers us the source of Ravensar essential oil. Use of the tree was largely localised to its origins until recent times. The seeds were traditionally used by the islanders in cooking, and the bark to make rum. There is some evidence to suggest that 18th Century France saw some medicinal application of Ravensar oil but it is still a relative newcomer to aromatic medicine and interest in its healing and tonic properties was really only established with the revival of aromatherapy in the 1980s. Please note: the traditional uses listed here are for reference only and under no circumstances should they be taken as recommendations for cures or treatments for diseases or medical conditions. Therapeutic oils are used to support natural body functions and work in harmony with our body's physiology.
